Bach St John’s Passion

As this is Holy Week there are many events occurring in our parishes. One very exciting event is the performance of Bach St. John’s Passion in St Pius X Church in Templeogue on Good Friday.

St John’s Passion was written by the German Composer Johann Sebastian Bach. (1685 – 1750) It is a representation of the Passion as told in chapters eighteen and nineteen in the Gospel of John from the Luther Bible. It is said that with its dramatic recitatives and choruses and highly reflective chorales it is an extravagant piece and gives the audience a high sense of urgency.

St Pius X  opened their doors in November 1960 and has become a major part of the community. The performance of The Passion is part of the celebrations of the parishes Golden Jubilee. The international Bach Tenor John Elwes will be heading the cast on the night, which include Jeffrey Ledwidge, Roisin O’Grady, Stephen Shellard and Andrew Boushell. The performance will also be accompanied by a newly formed choir called “Jubilate”. The evening will be directed by Killian Farrell.

Here at Church Services TV we are delighted to announce that we will be airing the performance on our website on Good Friday. Just go to http://www.churchservices.tv/live/PiusX. The show begins at 8pm.

We wish everyone a Happy Easter

Kind Regards

Rachel
