Remember the The Divine Mercy Apostolate Conference is being broadcast live on Church Services TV this weekend.

On Divine Mercy

Divine Mercy is needed more than ever today for every individual as it is a very individual need.

The Government needs it, especially with an election looming, to ensure the country will not be thrown into a deeper depression.

With crime at an all time high, unemployment off the scale, whatever Government takes office at the next election is in need of Divine Mercy.

While the banks seem to have survived their crises, individuals are still left to pick up the pieces. For those individuals, Divine Mercy is offered.

Our world cries out for Divine Mercy, as the cost of living increases. More and more people find it difficult to make ends meet.

Whatever political parties/parties take office at the next general election, one of their first priorities must be the well being of the individual.

It must take into account, not only their individual social needs, their political viewpoint, but also their spiritual ethos. Individual needs cannot be ignored.

Divine Mercy is the answer. It takes into account the wider community and the wider world.

The health of every nation depends on the social and spiritual protection of the individual and their religious liberty.

This freedom is to be found in Divine Mercy. Divine Mercy crosses all divides.

We who advocate and spread the message of Divine Mercy believe it to be the most essential element of our society that needs to be discovered today.

For more information please see details of our Divine Mercy Conference, in the RDS 19th&20th Feb 2011

Now this is something we in Church Services TV would like to do in the future! If your organization has a team of 2-4 very fit individuals maybe you would like to consider a team building exercise of a life time?

The Four Peaks Challenge raises money and awareness for Focus Ireland. Focus Ireland aims to advance the right of people-out-of-home to live in a place they call home. Home, family and community are important priorities for Church Services TV and we are happy to support Focus Ireland.

The Four Peaks Challenge invites teams of between 3 and 5 walkers plus a minimum of two drivers per vehicle to climb the highest mountain in each of the four provinces over one weekend and raise €4500 in sponsorship to help people who are homeless. During the challenge you and your team will discover the breathtaking scenery of Ireland’s highest peaks: Carrauntoohil (Kerry), Mweelrea (Mayo), Slieve Donard (Down) and Lugnaquilla (Wicklow).

Why not look at Focus Ireland’s Photo Stream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/focusireland/with/5099144847/ and check out just how spectacular that scenery is.

The next Four Peaks Challenge will take place from Friday 10th – Sunday 12th June 2011 if you are fitter and braver than us! See the Focus Ireland website for further details.

We have a lot to learn from geese flying in “V ” formation. The whole flock adds at least 70% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those who are heading in the same as we are.

When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point. These geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Finally, when a goose gets sick, or is wounded by gunshot, and falls out, two geese fall out of formation and follow him down to help and protect him. They stay with him until he is either able to fly or until he is dead, and then they launch out on their own or with another formation until they catch up with their group.

So mentioned Cardinal Sean Brady speaking in All Hallows College Dublin while launching an interesting and essential new book ‘Parish Pastoral Councils’ written by Debra Snoddy, Andrew McNally and Jim Campbell,
Done in a creative and responsible fashion, the creation and operation of a parish pastoral council can be that catalytic agent that brings new life and hope to the parish and its people. We should expect nothing less of our colleagues and ourselves in the task of being the local parish – the future of the Church.

St Vincent Pallotti was born in Rome in 1795. Even from a very early age people called him a ‘Little Saint’. He became a Doctor of Theology and confessor to the Pope and spiritual director of the Roman Seminary, The Irish College and the College for the Spread of the Faith. His two great loves were The Missions and the Apostolate of the Laity.

In 1835 he founded the Society of the Catholic Apostolate, a group which included lay people as well as clergy, and insisted that every baptized person is called to be an Apostle. Almost a century later Pope Pius XI commented that the Society had come close to the ideal and reality of modern Catholic Action.

St Vincent died in 1850 aged just 55 years. A century later he was declared Blessed by Pope Pius XII and on January 22nd 1963 he was declared Saint by Pope John 23rd, with January 22nd being designated his feast day.

‘Share the Good News’ – the first ever National Directory for Catechesis in Ireland was launched today in Dublin by Bishop William Murphy. It is historical as it’s the first ever directory, researched and written over the past five years, and presented within an Irish context. It offers a genuine opportunity for adult education of Catholics about their faith. It is written in understandable language, beautifully illustrated and presented. The contents will appeal to Catholic people wherever they find themselves on their faith journey. Guidance, understanding, thought provoking and call to appropriate action are some of the results of delving into this book. It is for all Catholics. Parish and family life are once again acknowledged and promoted as the basic units of Christian and Catholic community. Catholic religious education is an important topic today in a changing Ireland. This debate will continue. The future of the faith is the responsibility of all Catholics. ‘Share the Good News’ is required reading for all who wish to be Catholic in Ireland. It is available from Veritas bookshops or on www.veritas.ie.

The addresses given by Cardinal Seán Brady and Archbishop Diarmuid Martin at today’s launch can be viewed on www.catholicbishops.ie –News section.
