The First Sunday of Advent and the snow is on the ground

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

The first Sunday of advent, the sun is out and the snow is on the ground. This is a perfect day for taking some of those Christmas scene photos.

Unfortunately the ice and snow also make it more difficult for all of us to travel even short distances. Yesterday I saw a young couple stop their car and offer a lift to an older woman who was walking in the middle of the road as it was too difficult to use her walker on the frozen footpaths. It reminded me that we need to make a special effort to ensure that our close neighbours are not isolated this winter.

The ChurchServices.Tv service is designed to help people at home remain part of their local Christian community in Ireland (and soon the UK) by allowing everybody to take part in Masses, Services and Prayers from the comfort of their own homes. It does not nor is meant to replace human contact. So maybe this Advent we all should all look out for each other and make sure that no one is feeling isolated or lonely.

If anybody has a community scheme that enables the housebound feel less isolated this winter please contact me at comments@churchresources.ie and I will consider adding you to this blog.

Better Together!

Friday, November 26th, 2010

On the 25th November 2010 ChurchServices.TV was invited together with other Irish charities, clubs and associations working in the Community Services Sector to the Better Together !Awards hosted by RTEs Mary Kennedy.

The Better Together! campaign aims to show you how you can make a difference by getting involved in community and voluntary activity. Videos entries were made on the website that showcase the work of some of the thousands of charities, clubs and associations that are active across Ireland.

After a couple of weeks of nothing but bleak news on the Economic front the Better Together Awards ceremony was just what the Doctor ordered. Deirdre Garvey of the Wheel was delightful and Mary Kennedy a perfect hostess.

The Winners can be found http://www.bettertogether.ie/2010-winners and I would encourage everybody to take a look at their award winning videos.

You can find Church Services TV entry – here!  http://www.bettertogether.ie/content/churchservicestv-broadcasting-live-local-irish-christian-services
